Abstract

Introduction: Umbilical endometriosis, or Villar's nodule, is a rare disease. Its frequency is estimated to be around 1% of all cases. It mainly affects women of reproductive age.

Method: This was a clinical case study conducted at the maternity of Sourô Sanou University Hospital in Bobo-Dioulasso in may 2023.

Results: A 33-year-old female patient presented with cyclical bleeding from the umbilicus during menstruation, associated with a painful umbilical nodule. Surgery was the treatment of choice. The diagnosis was confirmed by histology of the surgical specimen.

Conclusion: Umbilical endometriosis is rare. Treatment is mainly surgical and involves complete excision of the lesion.
